First time user of manual trimming machine…comparison with hand trimming

Got to borrow a Lumo-X 16 trimming machine after years and years of hand trimming pounds of buds and I LIKE IT! Trimmed up about 4oz fresh cut buds in about 10 minutes that would have taken me about 1+ hours manually with snips. Before and after pics are obvious. Finished buds put on mesh layer...

    Time to start the harvest

Figured I’d start harvest by honoring my late father in law by using his 70 year old garden shears…sturdy sharp steel with nice long handles. Chopped “The Doctor” this afternoon (sporadic bud rot) and now hanging in my shed with available dehumidifier, AC when needed, and circulating fan. Four...

    Just entered trim jail today

Well time for my trim jail sentence. Got my comfortable chair surrounded by supply bin, trim receiver (floor), trimmed bud bin (right), alcohol for cleaning fiskar snips (chair arm), and tunes for headphones (wearing them). First jar done….many to go🥴

Heavy New England rains just gave outdoor growers a nutrient flush

So we’re near the end of a two-day soil flush with about 4 inches of rain hopefully ending later today. Time to do a couple things when rain stops. Most of these steps are pretty intuitive. 1. Shake off rain from plants and use leaf blower to help if you have one. 2. Add more support stakes...

To spray or not to spray, that is the question

I’ve got 6 outdoor plants 3 weeks into flower showing no signs of WPM or insect invasion. A few plants have pretty dense canopies that I’ve been trying to thin out but are still a bit thick. The drought and heat in New England this summer has really helped keep things green and happy and it...

Need opinions on possible flowering tent

I’m wondering if anyone has experience flowering their plants in a large camping tent. I have a potted plant that will fit inside my 20+ yr old camping tent. I know light will be diminished slightly (but diffused) and airflow will be reduced (can bring in fans to blow out) but the plant should...

When’s the best time to spray BT?

I have 6 outdoor plants in week 3 of flower and no signs of caterpillars on any of them. I’m wondering if I should spray BT before seeing caterpillars or after. Research indicates it must be consumed by critters to kill them and it needs to be reapplied after rains (so far not a problem in this...

Anyone using triple phosphate for bloom boosters?

I have an old bag of triple phosphate (0,45,0) and wondering if using a few tablespoons per 15 gallons soil in ground is a reasonable way to kickstart flowering. I used that to get my plumeria to flower because it needed a P boost. Flowers all over the bag.

A cooling tip for outdoor growers

I’ve got a potted plant that gets a lot of sun on the soil so I McGyvered a solution by placing a sheet of reflective insulation over the soil and drip sprinkler. The arched configuration allows for airflow to prevent mold buildup. I’ll let you know how it works by end of tomorrow when temp is...

    Heat stress vs under watered

I’m sure my plants have adequate roots water but are definitely affected by many days of 90-95 heat and show heat stress by midday. Plants droop a little but don’t wilt like dying of thirst. Wondering if misting them with cold hose water for a few minutes would help or hurt them. Anyone ever do...

Plants getting too big for holes dug in ground

I have three in-ground plants in holes…each filled with 1.5 bags of coast of Maine Stonington blend soil. Hole sizes are about 15 gallons dug in packed sandy soil. Problem is plants got so big and healthy so early (in ground May 4) they need water about every other day (noticeable leaf drooping...

Just chopped my recently discovered male

After carefully observing a regular seed plant for pre flowers, I found two early male flowers on July 4. All my other regular and feminized plants are pre flowering female so I had no problems chopping the “dude” today. For newbies checking your plants, here are pics of the male (with balls)...

Great tool for gardeners and guerilla growers

Just wanted to make you aware of a small 12-volt pump I’ve had for about 10 years that was designed for pumping water from small diameter wells. I now use it for pumping water with or without nutrients (or terp teas) from my 5-gallon container to my 6 plants. Pumps roughly 2 gallons/minute and...

Plan your 2023 outdoor grow area now (today)!

To all current and future outdoor growers, today, June 21, 2022 marks the start of summer, but more importantly to growers, the highest angle the sun is around noon EST. If you’re not already doing, you should take pics of your grow area that might show the shade line of nearby trees. Or at...

What’s Considered The Start of Flowering?

I’m a longtime outdoor grower in MA who usually grows feminized seeds. This year I have 5 feminized plants and 2 regular plants, all started April 1 indoors and put outside May 4. No feminized plants are showing any female flowers (typical at this time of year), one regular showing no male or...

Outdoor Growth Rate Always Amazes Me

If you have the chance to grow outside and are prepared to stake and support your plants, I highly recommend it. I’m in NE Massachusetts. First pic is from May 1 starting to harden inside plants (started April 1) for outside growth. Planted in ground May 4. Second pic is from June 1 (pardon pine...

Purifying My Dry Ice Kief Run

I have 36 grams of dry ice kief (including about 2% plant matter) after sieving through 220 micron screen. I’m considering attempting a purification process of dissolving the kief in Everclear, then filtering the solution through a 28 or 40 micron screen to remove plant matter, then evaporating...

    I Need Some Harvesting Advice

I have two plants in ground with both flowering for 8+ weeks and in the harvest window. G13 Haze (small plant) and bud pics, and Skunk XL (tall plant) and bud pics. Loupe shows 95% cloudy trichs and 5% amber. Hoping to get opinions on harvesting. Current weather shows 90% chance rain on Monday...

    Trichome conditions on medical/retail cannabis

FWIW…I’ve scoped medical buds checking trichomes and have never seen amber. Usually it’s 50/50 cloudy/clear. I know it’s probably because companies want to fast track it from their 2 week cure to market but it shows me you can get some good stuff that’s not amber. Just my thoughts.

Should I roll my girl into shed at night?

My strawberry glue is cruising into the final few weeks in a pot on wheels outside. I’ve rolled her into my shed to avoid rain but roll her back out during the day and leave her out on dry nights. With bud rot hitting ground plants 150 ft away I’m wondering if I should roll gluey into my shed...
