Yeah I agree its mainly for space and its easier to work with a plant in a smaller pot. Any more I just go straight into the 5gal pot and I feel like the root development is better and the plants seem more hardy.

I would recommend aerating the solution for at least 24 hours. I grow 100% organic and haven't even checked the ph of my watering/feedings for over 2 years but I don't use roots organics.
You can naever have "Too Big" filter unless its a space issue. I agree with ib, get that pre filter on there asap or you will cut the life of your scrubber in half by letting it get clogged. Why hang it?

Here is a novel Idea, soak them overnight in water and plant them about 1/4 inch deep into small cups filled with seed starter potting mix. I get 100% almost every time after all thats how mother nature does it. Except the cups of course.
